I think I've mentioned before that I don't often share "cute" things my kid says or does because in my personal opinion (and since this is my blog, that's the only opinion that counts), they're rarely cute or funny to anyone other than the little darling's parents. This little story has cracked up everyone I've told it to, though, and I'm not entirely sure it qualifies as a cute thing, anyway. So for your Friday reading pleasure, I bring you one of my less than stellar parenting moments:
Last weekend H-bomb and I were out at Toys R' Us buying birthday gifts for a number of his friends and classmates who had birthdays coming up. He's been doing really well in his BBUs, and we've made a bunch of short shopping trips in them without incident (unless you count having to visit every public restroom in every place we go as incident), so I decided we'd try TRU in the BBUs. He did really well (including a successful trip the TRU restroom...) until right at the very end, when he had an accident. I hustled him outside and assured him that it was okay, but that he had to try to remember to tell me when he had to go. To emphasize the message, I explained that because we had to leave to change his clothes, he didn't get to play with the train table or pick out a new train car for himself.
"Goddammit!" he exclaimed. And he said it in a perfect little imitation of myself, down to the frustrated head motion I typically make when using that word. "Sweetie," I said, "I know you're disappointed, but that's not a word we say." "Yes it is, Mommy," he said cheerfully, "YOU say it!"
On the bright side, at least I know he's listening to me.

Jocelyn ~ I CANNOT stop laughing!!! Yes, what a great "laugh" you have given many on this Friday! I'm sure my day is coming....maybe not with that particular word, but quite a hand full of others! I'm trying to do better. Thanks for sharing. ~E
